So our morning started early today around 7:30, of course I couldn't sleep well, why you ask, because as per Erin's immune system it's apparently time to get sick. So in Erin classic fashion I gotta go get meds at a drug store. Not like I don't already have a crud ton of meds with me and as some of you know I prepped myself before the trip in hopes of building up my system...well it didn't work and I am so mad at my body for not being able to withstand the European virus strains.
Anyway, the story for today again, early to wake so we could finally find a place to get postcard stamps, you wouldn't think it was so hard to find them but it was. So luckily between the pharmacy and the post office we only had to wait until 8a for them to open. I won't bore you with the cash/ATM issues that we had. The big issue for the day was the rail reservations that Lisa made. The company had sent us confirmation and had given a code we were "suppose" to put into a machine to print tickets. Well we went to information to inquire about getting them printed out and the lady said no tickets paper is ticket...well let's just say she was wrong, or the language barrier was too big, or the stars weren't aligned because it wasn't a ticket, and no one would accept it as such....Some part of us knew that there was going to be a problem but we didn't have the tools to rectify it so we just had to go along with the day. It cost us extra to buy tickets while on the train (the irony is we sat in our RESERVED seats the entire way). I do have to admit that the ticket collectors treated us really well. There we were helpless to the system that had failed us and at least a small life line was thrown out there. One ticket guy even let us pay at a certain stop because that was where we would be able to hop off and get money from an ATM and then hurry and hop back on, he even guided me to it, very nice man (oh and discounted the cost to boot!). Then the third guy was pretty nice too and gave us a cost break as well, at least there was that.
We finally arrived in Budapest, hungry tired and a bit on the done with it side. We checked in fine and since I am sick I thought hey, why not get a taxi to the good restaurant we wanna visit. So taxi it was, get there and....plumbing problems, they are closed. But the owner was nice enough to give us directions to another place back one main road, so we had to walk a ways anyway. Get to the recommended restaurant and...closed to public for private party. Ok well then we wandered down he street which was away from our hostel and tried to find Hungarian food, no luck, a bunch of Chinese and cafe food places with an Argentina place crammed in there. We finally find a place, go in and...kitchen is closed. Ok onward through the fog, pizza place, can't go wrong, walk in and they are completely ignoring us, ask if they are serving food they say hold on a minute, we get pissed at them and leave. Next we walk into a bar/restaurant and they say yeah the kitchen is open, the guy goes to get a table and...none available and the last one was reserved. Definitely am done at this point and want to forget it all, so we head back to our hostel and....get bread, cheese, meat, yogurt at the grocery store across the street.
Day done, no more to say, see you tomorrow.
Sorry to hear about that cold... it's not the first time you've had a cold on vacation time overseas. May be some flop flop fizz fizz; see man drink cold med... hahaha...
ReplyDeleteOf course being unable to solve ticket issues right is really madding... can't believe that these people couldn't fix your problem they weren't going to lose anything by helping you guys.
Gee, that's odd that you all had such a hard time getting something to eat, so many other types of foods available... except for what you were looking for. It would seem that going to a market and buying food was probably the smarter... since you were all tired and needed some down time.
I had so much to say last night and this damn notebook dropped it all... by this happening several times I just got mad and tired of trying to do it all over again. Well let see... got some more fish for my small pond, went shopping at costco for some the usual stuff. Had salmon last night it was good... of course farm raised but still good.
Got comcast coming by this afternoon... why cause I can't get the internet working in the office... besides only yesterday realized that the phone wasn't working... after calling them and trying to fix the problem they said they would send out a tech to look at what they could do in fixing... but after thinking about what we talked about I looked at the connection at their unit and found the line to the phone was not connected right... ok not interesting.... wait dads going on and on... but really they are going to replace the controller in the living room.
Hey, will be looking forward to next blog and hoping your cold will be better and things get a little better for all... Love
Sounds like a tough day between logistical troubles, sickness, and restaurant bouncing! :s But hey, can't go wrong with bread and cheese (and meat)! :) Hopefully y'all can track down some traditional food tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon, Erin! Hopefully you're get a little rest in today.
con amor,
Natalia J.G.S.
