Unfortunately after such a nice meal we found out from the front desk that Sunday's usually mean stores and places are closed and we probably wouldn't have much luck finding a lot of things we may want or need. It kinda put a damper on things right off the bat.
First on our list today was to go to the business district and take a look at a building called Main Tower. Well after we walk about 4 blocks and look up you think it's gonna be grand or magnificent, well not really, kinda a let down. So much for the famous Frankfurt skyline.
Next was onto the Hauptwache, central plaza, the disappointment of closed shops was really shining through. Basically it was a lot of wandering with nothing to look at or in. We decided at this point we would have to return to this district tomorrow, mostly because this one store and it sells only...GUMMYS!!!
We wandered towards the shopping region that was supposed to be big and popular, Zeil. Again closed stores...went into an empty mall that was open to the public, but none of the stores inside were open, but they were even playing music...
In a final attempt to rectify a day of disappointed wandering we headed towards our last stop of the day, Romerberg, old town. This was definitely my saving grace for the day that I didn't plan well enough(note from Lisa: the trip is amazing, Erin is too mean to herself)... Cute classic old town architecture and over all a quaint square. We were able to pick up the few souvenirs we needed and then we headed to a nearby...Starbucks! Mostly just to sit and rest and write postcards.
We followed that with a trip back to our hostel, a story I haven't told yet. We had booked an 8 bed mix dorm ensuite (bunch of bunk beds, but a bathroom in that room at least), well that is not where we stayed last night. It turned out to be a six bed mix dorm no bathroom, only two bathrooms to the entire floor of who knows how many people. It wasn't the worst thing in the world, just inconvenient bathroom accommodations and an EXtremely loud squeaky floor. Well I fixed that this morning letting the girl know that it would really be appreciated if they were going to put us in a room that wasn't originally booked they could at least let us know ahead of time. She understood how "un-cool" that was and set us up in a new room for the next two nights, upgraded for the problems too, only 6 bed mix with a private bathroom! As of right now no one has even checked in yet so we might get it all to ourselves.
Following that we decided to be adventurous and visit a beer garden, but because they really aren't that popular here we went to a comparable apple wine garden. Our meal was fantastic, but the ongoing question is that we think we were fooled and given apple juice not cider (though it was really good regardless). We still haven't been able to find anyone to clarify for us if it was or wasn't. Even our server at the bar we went back to from yesterday didn't know the name. So mystery still stands and is driving Becca and myself nuts.

Currently we are enjoying the music in reception, girls are playing cards and I'm writing this. Oh, a lovely pianist just happened to start playing on the reception keys, some of my favorite pieces too, very happy!
Throwin in a couple pics from the balcony last night from reception.

This is short and sweet, this is my 6th comment and this damn program has lost everyone so far and locked up. Had so much typed and ready too - not happy don't think it's any thing other then a ____ up program error on their part.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures still and those meals wow - shutting down to reboot and run norton maybe fix my problem, it smile and give my best to everyone for me and mom. Love you
Wow, that cheesy potato (?) skillet dish is making me drool! Apple wine sounds really tasty! Is it like cider but not carbonated? That's too bad shops were closed but it looks like you had a peaceful stroll. Does Frankfurt feel really different from Berlin?
